Randor Guy Biography

Randor Guy is a leading journalist, film critic and legal historian associated with the daily, The Hindu. He is also a lawyer by profession. His real name is Madabhushi Rangadorai, and he hails from Tamil Nadu. Randor has been writing books on history and films since 1967. He regularly writes columns for leading Indian dailies such as Mylapore Times, The Hindu and The Indian Express, apart from film magazine, Screen. Though he writes on wide variety of topics, he is best known for his association with film related articles.

 

He completed his graduation from Madras University, followed by his Law studies. He is also a lawyer by profession. But his interest to writings prompted him to discontinue his practice and he fully dedicated himself to writings. In between he also worked for 5 years in the firm, Paterson and Co. he started writing since 1967, and he mostly writes cinema related articles. He is also a film critic and historian who publishes his observations as well.

 

His article on Frank Capra was purchased by United States Information Agency for referral work. He is the only non-American to receive this honour. Apart from writing regular articles, he has also written screenplays for a few documentaries and feature films. He wrote the script of the feature film, Tales of The Kama Sutra: The Perfumed Garden in 1999 followed by Kamasutra Nights: Maya. He also wrote the script of a Sinhalese film called Paradise Peak.

 

Starlight, Starbright: The early Tamil Cinema, Madhuri Oru Madhuri, Kasi, chaya, A History of Tamil Cinema etc are some of his published works.Apart from books on cinema, he also wrote fiction novels in Tamil and Telugu languages. Chitale is his biography work.
