Lal Jose Biography

Lal Jose is a very popular film director of Malayalam who has delivered big hits like – Oru maravathur kanavu (1998), Chandranudikkunna Dikhil (1999), Randam Bhavam (2001 film)Meesa Madhavan (2002), Chanthupottu (2005), Classmates (2006), Arabikkatha (2007), Neelathaamara (2009), Elsamma Enna Aankutty (2010), Spanish Masala (2012) Diamond Necklace (2012), Ayalum Njanum Thammil (2012) and Immanuel (2013). He is one among the most successful directors of present cinema. He has introduced many heroines to Malayalam cinema of which Kavya Madhavan’s name comes first (Chandranudikkunna Dikhil), followed by Archana Kavi (Neelathamara). Apart from these box office hits, he has also directed Salim Kumar in Achanurangaatha veedu, a critically well acclaimed movie. His two movies have made box office records – Meesa Madhavan in 2002 which made Dileep a superstar and Classmates in 2006, a campus movie, till its record was broken by the movie Twenty-20. In both these movies, Kavya Madhavan was the leading actress who has debut Malayalam as an adult actress at the age of 14 through Lal Jose’s movie - Chandranudikkunna Dikhil (1999).

His other movies include – Pattalam, Rasikan, Keral cafe and Mulla. His most recent release was Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum with Kunchakko Boban and Namitha in the leading roles. He has good success record with actor Dileep. Chandranudikkunna Dikhil, Chandu pottu and Meesa Madhavan are his big hits while Rasikan and Mulla worked moderately at box office. His next project is Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal – with Dileep and Rima Kallingal in leading roles. He has played a significant role in Dileep’s career by experimenting his talent by giving movies like Chandupottu that still remains to be the most favourite film of Dileep till now. Dileep’s biggest hit of his life time is of course Meesa Madhavan that placed the struggling actor to the top wanted list of Malayalam.

Lal Jose was born in Valapad in Thrissur. He started his career as an assistant director and has worked under director Kamal for 16 films, from Pradheshika Varthakkal to Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu. He has also worked as associate director for Thampy Kannamthanam, Lohithadas, Harikumar, Vinayan, K. K. Haridas and Nizar. In 1998, he made his debut as an independent director with Oru Maravathoor Kanavu with Mamootty and Divya Unni as leading actors and till now, his career has never noticed down trend. Most recently he has given critically well acclaimed movie, Ayalum naalum thammil for which he accumulated many critics’ awards as well.
