Anushka Shetty is an Indian film actress who concentrates on Telugu and Tamil film industry. Her Telugu debut film was Super in 2005 and her performance in Vikramarkudu in 2006 made her famous. She became the leading actress in Telugu cinema. Her characters in the films Arundhati and Vedam got her two Filmfare awards and one Nandi award and one CineMAA award.
She was born on 7th November 1981 in Bellipady in Mangalore. Her birth name was Sweety Shetty. She is also called as Tommulu. She has two brothers, Dr. Sai Ramesh and Gunaranjan. Her mother tongue is Tulu. She finished her schooling and college studies at Bangalore. She graduated in computer applications from Mount Carmel College. She got Yoga training under the guru Bharat Thakur and worked as a Yoga Instructor.
After her debut film Super in Telugu, she acted in Mahanadhi and then in Vikramarkudu. She became very popular in Andhra Pradesh. She acted in the film Astram and then acted in Tamil film industry. She debuted in Tamil film industry through the film Rendu with R. Madhavan. In 2007 she acted in Lakshyam which was a box office hit. Then she appeared with Nagarjuna in Don. She acted in six films in 2008, Okka Magaadu, Swagatam, Baladuri and Souryam, etc. Her blockbuster film in 2009 was Arundhati.
She acted in the film Billa and in Singam co-starring Suriya. She acted in Vettaikkaran with Vijay. Her other releases are Vaanam, Panchakshari, Khaleja, Nagavalli, and Ragada. She is also acting in many other films. She gave her voice to the AIDS education animation software that was created by the non-profit organization, TeachAIDS.
