Kuldip Nayar Biography 
Kuldip Nayar was a very famous and prominent journalist, diplomat and columnist of present times. He has also served as High commissioner of India to United Kingdom, and known for his contributions as a human right activist. He was a left-wing political commentator, and has been nominated to Rajya Sabha in 1997. Nayar’s name is widely regarded as one among India’s most influential journalists all time, particularly in the free India. He passed away on 23 August 2018.
Nayar was born at Sialkot, Punjab in British India on 14 August 1923. Gurbaksh Singh and Pooran Devi are his parents. His education was completed in Lahore where he took bachelor’s degree as well as master’s degree. He took advanced studies in journalism at Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University in the early 1950s. After that he started his glorious career as a journalist. He started off as an Urdu press reporter and later rose to numerous prominent and influential positions of India’s media field, working with different dailies and other forms of media. While serving as editor of the Delhi edition of the English newspaper The Statesman he was arrested during Emergency period.
Apart from his service as a leading journalist of the country, he also played prominent roles as a social activist and peace activist. He was appointed High Commissioner to Great Britain in 1990. He was a member of India's delegation to the United Nations in 1996. As a peace activist, he has always tried to strengthen the friendly relationship between India and Pakistan, and has also worked to set free prisoners belonging to the neighbouring nation, though not successful. He also wrote columns on current affairs, mostly related to politics, and published his autobiography Beyond the Lines in 2012.
