There are more than 100 ghats in Varanasi. These ghats have steps that lead to the banks of the River Ganges. Many of them were built during the period of Marathas and these were used for bathing and also as the cremation sites. They are associated with the Hindu mythologies and some of them are privately owned. Some of the ghats are Scindia Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat, Lalita Ghat, Ram Ghat, Raja Gwalior Ghat, Jain Ghat, Ganesha Ghat, Hanuman Ghat, Darabhanga Ghat, Prabhu Ghat, Sakka Ghat, Rewan Ghat, etc.
