1. Shop for some cheap items in New Delhi. As this is the place of production of many electrical goods they are available very cheap.

Chandni Chowk Bazaar: A great bazaar for first time shoppers in Delhi. Many shops here are more than 100 years old. Silver jewelry, electronic goods, fabric and needlework are available very cheap in Dariba Kalan, Bhagirath Palace, Katra Neel and Kinari Bazaar respectively. You need cash instead of credit cards to purchase in these places.

 

Cannaught Place: Everything under the sun is available in Cannaught Place. This was established in 1931 and is also called as Rajiv Chowk. You can make best deals on silver jewelry, saris and Kashmiri shawls.

 

Hauz Khas Villaga: This area is famous for its restaurants, boutique shops, designer clothing, folk crafts, handmade glass items and antique furniture.

 

Khan Market: This is the place where the residents of New Delhi come to purchase CDs, DVDs, electronic gadgets, clothing, books and cosmetic items at a cheaper price.

 

Santushti Shopping Complex: This is run by the Air Force Wives Association and the best place for luxurious shopping with a style. There are 30 boutiques around a small garden and the items like cosmetics, jewelry, fancy goods and leather products are sold here. This houses the famous Basil and Thyme restaurant.

 

Palika Bazaar: There are 400 shops in this bazaar and everything from electronic goods like cameras to clothing and cosmetics is available in this bazaar.

 

Sarojini Nagar Market: If cheap clothing is your aim, then this is the place to go. The surplus export garments are sold at low prices and you can buy both Indian and Western outfits here. A fruit and vegetable bazaar is also located here.

 

Janpath Market: This market is located on the Janpath Road connecting Connaught Place and Lodi Gardens. The home products, hand crafted jewelry, Indian folk crafts and Bohemian clothes are sold here.

 

2. You can relish the local street food like chaats, papdis and golgappas.

 

3. Hear Qawwalis at Nizamuddin Auliya dargah.

 

4. Head to Saravana Bhavan at Janpath to have a delicious South Indian food and coffee.

 

5. Watch a film at Regal Theatre in Connaught Place, the unrefined one reflecting the culture of the place.

  • International Doll’s Museum – A museum of dolls where you can see the costumes and art from various parts of India. Open hours 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. Entrance – Rs. 10.
  • National Musum – Located at Janpath containing true masterpieces like the excavations at Indus Valley sites, etc. Open from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Entrance – Rs. 10. Closed on Mondays.
  • National Science Center – A good place for young science enthusiasts and has separate sections for DNA and Dinosaurs.
  • National Railway Museum – This has a collection of Indian trains from the past to the present including carriages. Closed on Mondays.
  • Nehru Memorial Museum – The residence of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Entry fee Rs. 50 for adults and Rs. 25 for children.
    Tibet House – Situated at Lodhi road was established by HH Dalai Lama depicting the cultural heritage of Tibet. Entrance fee Rs. 10.
