Qutub Minar is a part of the Qutub Complex that houses various monuments like Qutb Minar, Quwwat Ul Islam Mosque, Alai Darwaza, Alai Minar, and iron pillar, Iltumish Tomb, Alauddin Khilji Tomb and Imam Zamin Tomb. They are situated in the Mehrauli region of Delhi.

The Qutub Minar was built by Qutbuddin Aibak, the first Sultan of Mamluk dynasty who ruled from Delhi in 1192 A.D. Many rulers like Firoz Shah Tughlaq, Alauddin Khilji and Iltumish contributed to this complex later on.

Qutub Minar is 72.5 meters high and has five storeys. The diameter of the minaret is 14.3 meters at the base and 2.7 meters at the top and has 379 steps. This complex is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second most visited place in India after Taj Mahal. Qutub Festival is conducted here every November-December for three days.

Alai Darwaza is located in the south side of the mosque and was constructed in 1311 A.D. by Alauddin Khilji. Quwwat Ul Islam Mosque was built by Qutbuddin Aibak in 1193 A.D. and was built on the raised pavement. The iron pillar in the complex is 7.21 meters high and weighs more than six tones and was originally constructed at Udayagiri in 402 A.D. by Chandragupta Vikramaditya and later was shifted to this place.

The tomb of Iltumish built in 1235 A.D. has 9 meter square central chamber and the main cenotaph was built with white marble. The tomb of Imam Zamin, a saint from Turkestan is situated next to Alai Darwaza.

The construction of the Alai Minar was started by Alauddin Khilji and after completing 80 feet high first storey, he died and so the project was abandoned.
