Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden also called Mysore Zoo is one of the oldest and biggest zoos in India. This is one of the major attractions of Mysore and the animals are kept in enclosures. The zoo spreads over an area of 250 acres of land and was established in 1892 by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar. Formerly it was called Palace Zoo.

 

The zoo was opened to the people from the year 1902. There is an artificial lake within its complex and has an aviary where many rare species of birds are kept. Some of the animals found here are elephants, monkeys, lions, tigers, deer, wolves, etc.
