Sankar Monastery or Sankar Gompa is the abode of Spituk, the Kushok Bakule who is considered to be the senior incarnate lama of Ladakh. About 20 monks live here in this monastery. You can visit this place at any time and you have to climb the steps to reach the assembly hall. In the place of the Gyeskos, you can see three green drums. The doorway is painted in rich colors. If you go upstairs you can see the Dukar Lhakang or inner sanctuary. You can see a figure here with 1000 arms and 1000 heads. The Abbot room, guest room and library are located here.
