Namgyal Tsemo Monastery was founded by King Tashi Namgyal in 1430 AD and it has a big gold idol of Maitieya Buddha and houses ancient manuscripts and frescos. From this place you can have the full view of Leh. The three story high solid gold idol of Lord Buddha is considered to be one of the most treasured possessions of this monastery. It also has the statue of Avaloketesvara and Manjushri both rising to the height of one story. There is an old fort near this monastery which is in ruins now.
