Lamayuru Monastery is situated on the Srinagar to Kargil to Leh road. The gompa originally has five buildings and the remaining four buildings have been perished over time and the ruins are still seen. This is one of the largest and oldest gompas in Ladakh and nearly 150 monks live here. Two annual masked dance festivals are hosted here.
