Bahu Fort is located in the Jammu city and was built 3000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan and then it was renovated by Dogra kings in 19th century. It houses the temple of Goddess Kali which is the presiding deity of the region. This temple is called Bawe Wali Mata Temple.

 

The fort is situated on a high plateau overlooking the left banks of the Tawi River. There is a well developed Mughal gardens around this fort known as Bhave Ki Bahu. The walls of the fort were built with lime and brick mortar and have eight octagonal towers or turrets. There is a pond on the left side and a pyramidal structure in the right.

 

The Hindu festival Bahu Mela is conducted during the time of Navratri and large number of pilgrims visit the place at that time. The fort has been declared as a heritage site by the state government.
