Salar Jung Museum is located at the southern bank of the River Musi. There are three national museums in India and this is one among them. It has a wide collection of ceramics, clocks, furniture, paintings, sculptures, carvings and textiles that has been collected from various countries of the world. This originally belonged to the Salar Jung family.

 

Salar Jung Museum is the third largest museum in India and the biggest one man collection in the world. Many of the collections belong to first century. This had been collected by the Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III who served as the Prime Minister of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. In 1951, it was made as a private museum and was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru.

 

The museum is famous for its quran collection collected from various parts of the world and the collection of clocks. This museum has been announced by the Indian Parliament as the Institution of National Importance.
