Nehru Zoological Park is also called Hyderabad Zoo and spreads over an area of 380 acres of land. It was established on 26th October 1959 and opened to the public on 6th October 1963. There are about 100 species of birds, animals and reptiles found in the zoo that include many rare and endangered species such as Asiatic lions, orangutan, python, kangaroos, etc.

 

The nocturnal house is situated in the zoo and this reverses the night and day for the animals so that they are active during the visiting hours. This house includes barn owls, leopard cats, civets, loris and fruit bats. Lion Safari, Tiger Safari, Bear Safari and Butterfly Safari are organized daily and other attractions include elephant rides, children’s train and natural history museum.
