Mecca Masjid is one of the largest and oldest mosques in India. It is located near Chowmahalla Palace and Charminar. It was built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and it is said that the soil was brought from Mecca and used for its construction and so it got its name.

The hall of the mosque was 75 feet in height with a width of 220 feet and length of 180 feet. About 10,000 people could worship here at a time. There are fifteen arches supporting the roof of the main hall. There is an arched gallery at the minaret and a small dome at the top. On the arches and doors, the inscriptions from the Quran could be seen.

The cornices and the floral motifs are the center of attraction of the tourists bearing testimony to the wonderful architectural elegance. These structures resemble those seen in Charminar and Golkonda Fort. The arched balconies are found on the octagonal columns and the column is crowned by a dome and spire.
