Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of the state of Tamil Nadu. Initially Fort St. George built in 1640 was the governor’s residence. Later this was changed into the Secretariat and so it was shifted here.

 

Raj Bhavan in Chennai was originally called Guindy Lodge and this was built in the 1670s by the Governor William Langhorne. The total area of the Raj Bhavan Estate spreads over an area of 156.14 acres of land. In the sorroundings of Raj Bhavan many animals are found such as deer, mongoose, jackals, reptile varieties, pheasants, parrots, quail and other migratory birds.
