Birla Planetarium in Chennai is situated within the campus of Periyar Science and Technology Center. The planetarium has powerful projectors and telescopes. The 360 degree sky theatre was established here in 2009 and this was first of its kind in India.

The sky shows are conducted in various languages at different times of the show and this includes the solar system, sky and seasons, eclipses, comets, shooting meteoroids, etc. This audio visual programs aims at teaching the different aspects of astronomy.

The planetariums are open to public on all days except national holidays from 10 A.M. to 5.45 P.M. The cosmic show timings in English language are 10.45 A.M., 1.15 P.M. and 3.45 P.M. The Tamil show timings are 12 P.M. and 2.30 P.M.
