Transportation in Chandigarh by Buses

 

The local buses are run by Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and they ply between Chandigarh and its satellite towns Panchkula and Mohali. There are two bus stations in Chandigarh at Sector 17 and Sector 43. Buses are the economical and efficient modes of transport and the bus routes are printed at the back of the bus tickets.

 

The New Grid Transport System gives hassle free ride. There are also air-conditioned mini buses that are deployed between selected routes. The special hip on hop off double decker buses will take you around all the major places of visit in the city and you can get on and get off at any of them at any time if you purchase appropriate tickets. The journey starts in Sector 17 bus terminal. You can book them in advance by contacting the tours and travel wing of the road transport.

 

Transportation in Chandigarh by Cars and Taxis

 

There are taxi stands in every sector near the commercial market and you can hire these private taxis from there. There are also air-conditioned cab services run by Chandigarh administration and these are available at your door steps on call. These cabs could be found near railway station and airport also. The uniformed drivers drive them and they ensure trouble free service as they are continuously monitored by GPRS technology by their control rooms.

 

Transportation in Chandigarh by Auto Rickshaw

 

Chandigarh is the pioneer to launch the radio auto service in the country and this is called Tuk Tuk service. This service is available round the clock on calling the number +91 172 4242424. The common auto rickshaws are widely seen near bus terminals, railway station and at the auto stands near commercial markets in every sector. They charge based on meters but it is better to negotiate the fare before getting in.

 

Transportation in Chandigarh by Cycle Rickshaw

 

Cycle rickshaws are the cheapest means of transport for short distance travels. They are three wheeled pedal powered vehicles that carry two passengers. There are many such rickshaws found all over the city and you can hire them at any place you want.
