Van Vihar National Park has been declared as a national park in 1983 and it covers about 5 square kilometers. The animals are kept here in natural habitat. Many of them are either orphaned animals or exchanged from other zoos. The visitor can drive along the road passing through the park to view them.

Animals like tiger, panther, crocodiles, gharial, snakes, lion, bear and hyena are seen here. Some of the herbivores are cheetal, sambhar, blackbuck, blue bull, etc. There are more than two hundred species of birds seen in this park and as there is a big lake nearby, many migratory water birds are also seen.
