The local transportation in Bangalore is offered by buses, auto rickshaw, taxis, private cars and Bangalore Metro. There are eight helipads in the city and you can also travel from airport to one of these spots by helicopter. Deccan Aviation and Birdie offer the helicopter services.

Transportation in Bangalore by Bus

Buses are quite cheap in Karnataka and are frequent too and so transportation in Bangalore by bus is one of the easiest and affordable methods of travelling. The route number is written in English but the route information is written in Kannada in most of the buses and so you have to know your route number before you start your journey.

The new buses have LED display boards and the Volvo buses are called Vajra. They are expensive than the normal buses. If you want to travel to a long distance, you may buy daily pass. This will save you money and will be an economical option. The children below 12 years old are given 50% concession and senior citizens are given 25% concession.

Transportation in Bangalore by Auto Rickshaw

Auto rickshaws are available in all the time in all the places. They could be hired at any place. They are supposed to charge fares according to the meter reading. But it is better to negotiate the fare for a particular place before getting on.

After 10 P.M. an additional surcharge of 50% is charged. Some of them even ask for higher charges. The auto stands are there in many places around the city especially you can find them near the railways stations and bus stands.

Transportation in Bangalore by Taxi

Hiring taxi is the convenient method of local transportation in Bangalore. Many taxi companies charge a flat rate for pick up and drop at any place within the limits of the city. However waiting charges and charges on return trips are extra.

There are call taxis run by EasyCabs, KSTDC and other companies that will come and pick you up from your destination. These radio cabs are often pre-booked and so you may not be able to avail their services at times. Hotel agents will help you to book good chauffeur driven vehicles at reasonable rates. Alternatively you can book private cars. Some of them charge based on the hours of service.

Transportation in Bangalore by Metro

Bangalore Metro is the new suburban rail service that is in operation recently. Though the construction work is not completed, Reach-1 route of Bangalore Metro is operated between Baiyappanahalli to M.G. Road and has stops at Swami Vivekananda Road, Indira Nagar, Halasuru and Trinity. Soon this will be extended up to Mysore Road. They are very cheap and luxurious way of transportation in Bangalore. The minimum fare is Rs. 10 and the maximum fare is Rs. 15 as of April 2012.
