Nandi Hills also called Nandi Durg is located 10 km from Chickballapur town. This is the origin of River Arkavathy. There are many stories about this place and there is a fort of Tipu Sultan here. An ancient Nandi temple is situated on the hill along with the temple of Lord Shiva and Parvati. The place is 1479 meters above mean sea level and is closer to the Bangalore International Airpot.

The Tipu Fort is renovated and the efforts to change this into a tourist hub are going on. Many exotic species of plants and trees like Eucalypturs, Coffee Arabica, etc are found here and the birds like Nilgiri Woodpieon and Shaheen Falcon are found. It is the house of various species of flora and fauna.

Some of the tourist attractions here are Tipu’s Drop, Tipu’s Summer Palace and Fort, Horse Way, temples, Nehru Nilaya, rivers, paragliding activity, Brahmashram, etc. The rivers like Pennar, Ponnaiyar, Arkavathy and Paalar originate from this place.
