Bangalore Palace was built in the 19th century in the style of the Windsor Castle in England. Rev. Garrett, the principal of the central high school in Bangalore started to build this in 1862 and the work was completed in 1944.

It spreads over an area of 454 acres and Chamaraja Wodeyar bought this in 1873 and renovated it. It reflects the Tudor style of architecture with battlements and turrets. The wood carvings, cornices and motifs add elegance to this building.

The palace consists of 35 rooms. The ground floor has granite seats with ceramic tiles. An elaborate Durbar Hall is there in the first floor. The walls of the palace are adorned with paintings including some of the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma and the Gothic style glass windows are placed on one side of the hall.

The palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens and other attractions like splendid carvings, fortified towers and exhibition of photographs attract the tourists. It is in the possession of Srikanta Datta Narsimharaja Wadiyar and the Government of Karnataka is trying to bring it under its possession. The case is still in the Supreme Court.
