Wamanrao Sadolikar Biography 
Wamanrao Sadolikar was a leading name in Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana of Hindustani classic music founded by his guru, Ustad Alladiya Khan. His daughter Shruti Sadolikar Katkar is a Hindustani vocalist belonging to Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana who sings in khyal style and is immensely popular in music circles. She also practices and performs Thumri, Tappa and Natya Sangeet. His family belongs to Kolhapur, closely linked with music traditions, and most members following it. Wamanrao Sadolikar has taught many disciples of which his daughter Shruti Sadolikar is one among the leading names. Other names include - his brother, Madhukar Sadolikar and Manjiri Kavre Alegaonkar. He was also associated with films and theatre during his early days, before he completely concentrated on to music career.
Wamanrao Sadolikar was born on 16 September 1907 in Kolhapur, Bombay Presidency, British India. Many of his family members were singers and music lovers. During his teens, he got opportunity to learn classical music under the guidance of Pt. V. D. Paluskar of the Gwalior Gharana. In fact he was introduced to the world of music by this legendary voice. During his early days, Wamanrao was closely associated with Marathi theatre, where he carried different roles such as actor, singer, music composer and play director. Sadolikar also had a brief stint in films. Later he completely concentrated on to his musical journey. He studied music under Ustad Bhurji Khan and Ustad Alladiya Khan.
He was the source of inspiration of Alladiya Khan Music Festival started in the 1980s. Balgandharv Suvarna Padak by the Marathi Natya Parishad, ITC SRA Fellowship and Sangeet Praveen by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Lahore in 1938 are the major honours received by this legendary voice. He passed away on 25 March 1991, aged 83.
