Vijayakumari. S Biography

Vijayakumari. S is a noted Television Actress associated with Malayalam entertainment industry. She is a professional theater artist too, and owns more than 15 years of experience in this field. Now she is familiar to Malayali audiences through the character roles she play on small screen. Vamsam, Thangam, Paarijatham, Oridathoridathu, Balamani, Kungumapoovu and Akkamma Stalinum Pathrose Gandhiyum are some of her popular shows. She has been an active member of prominent theater troupes of Kerala such as Southern Kerala like, Kerala People’s Arts Club (KPAC), N N Pillai’s Sanga Chetha drama troupe, Attingal Deshabhimani troupe, etc. Her husband Ramesh is also a theatre artist.

Vijayakumari is a trained singer and she reached art world as a singer. She used to participate in cultural events and competitions as a singer, and once theatre personality O. Madhavan happened to hear her singing. It happened during her school days, and Madhavan gave her opportunity to sing for his stage plays. She worked as a singer of Kalidasa Kala Kendra for 3 years before she entered the world of acting. She has played lead role in some of the successful plays like Indulekha, Kaapalika, Shaakunthalam and Vaasavadatha during her younger days. She is a recipient of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy professional drama awards 2000 in best supporting actress category.

Though singing was her real passion, later she got attracted to acting field, and Vijayakumari – O. Madhavan’s wife is her role model in this field. She is also an ardent fan of character artist Meena. She was introduced to the world of television by scriptwriter Dinesh Plath, where she was casted as heroine Praveena’s mother in the serial Mounam. Since then she has done numerous supporting roles onscreen, mostly mother and mother-in-law roles. She is married to theatre artist, Ramesh with whom she has worked since teens. It’s a love marriage, and the couple is blessed with one daughter.
