Vijaya Bhaskar Biography 
Vijaya Bhaskar was a prominent music director of Kannada film industry. He has contributed music through nearly 670 movies and has also worked for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Tulu and Konkani language films. He was also known for his association with Kannada film directors like Puttanna Kanagal ad K.S.L Swamy. Rani Honnamma, Santha Thukaram, Gejje Pooje, Mana Mechida Madadi, Belli Moda, Naandi, Sharapanjara, Naagarahaavu, Sakshatkara, Shubhamangala, Neela and Malaya Marutha are his noted works as a music director. He was the prominent music director of the industry who introduced the concept of theme music in Kannada movies. He is credited for inspiring producers to select popular works of Kannada poets through his music.
Vijaya Bhaskar received formal training in Indian classical music at a younger age. He learnt the basics of Hindustani classical music from Govinda Bhave. He also learnt the intricacies of Carnatic Classical music and the piano. Later he worked as an assistant of prominent music directors of Hindi like Naushad and Madan Mohan at Mumbai. He got opportunity to work in Kannada films when he accidentally met B R Krishnamurthy at a restaurant in Mumbai while he was working as an assistant. Thus he reached the industry in the year 1953. Thus Kannada film industry got its first original music composer through the movie, Sri Rama Puja.
He was deeply influenced by R.C. Boral and Mukul Mehta. Yet, through years he developed his own style. His music played a significant role in the success of the movie - Belli Moda. Gejje Pooje and Naagarahaavu are his other noted projects with Puttanna Kanagal. Bhaskar gave music to three of Gopalakrishnan's films in Malayalam -- Kathapurushan, Vidheyan and Mathilukal. Koti Chennayya (1973) is his noted work in Tulu language. He received Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director 6 times.
