Vibha Sharma Biography

Vibha Sharma is an Indian singer associated with independent music. She has also sung a few Bollywood film songs in the 1990s. She shot to instant fame after singing a few songs of 1997 super hit comedy film, Ishq. She sang the title track – Ishq Hua featuring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla in the movie, and also ‘Kaise Kahoon Kaise Ho Tum’ and both songs were duets, composed by Anu Malik. As a pop singer she is best known for "Mehandi Lagaoongi Main" song from her debut album Mehndi released in year 2000.

 

Her full name is Alyssia Vibha Sharma. She was born to Indian parents in London in 1982. She belongs to a Hindu Punjabi-Kashmiri Pandit family. Since young she loved Indian music, though she was brought up in western culture in London. Once she won a singing competition while at London. She thought seriously about a musical career only after that. She started learning Indian classical music while at London and when she moved back to India, she continued training under Pandit Ajay Pohankar and Geeta Prem, sister of Jagjit Singh.

 

Vibha Sharma got her first break to Bollywood in 1997 through the movie, Ishq, where she sang a couple of romantic songs. She was only in her teens when she got a major break. The song Ishq Hua was a chartbuster. Later she sang for Hey Ram, Bulandi, Hadh Kar Di Apne, Dil Dhoondhta Hai etc. Yet she couldn’t get major success from Bollywood. In year 2000, she released her first music album, Mehndi which got noticed. Music was composed by Anand Raj Anand. She has rendered her voice for a Tamil song Inde Siripinai, composed by Karthik Raja. She continued her stage performances in UK music circle, and is known by the name Alyssia Sharma.
