Talvin Singh was born in London in 1970 to Indian parents of Punjabi origin. He grew up in Leytonstone. Right from the childhood he got drawn towards tabla, the traditional Indian music instrument. To study music in advance, he reached India at the age of 16 in the 1980s. He took formal training under Ustad Lachman Singh Seen for next one year and returned back to UK.
