Susmit Bose Biography

Susmit Bose is a veteran Indian musician, who is associated with different musical instruments. Apart from the form of entertainment Susmit uses music as a tool to create social awareness among common man and his songs often deal with social issues, human rights, global peace and nonviolence. He owns more than 4 decades of experience in the field of music since 1970s though stayed away from music for long 25 years since 1980s, and has performed and competed at several international platforms too. He has also released numerous musical albums since 1973. Winter Baby is his debut musical album. Song of Dharma - the story of Mahabharata (2011) was his last released album.

 

Susmit Bose was born November 1, 1950 and is of West Bengal origin. Known for his unique form of Naga folk blues, Bose were both forced to take decade-long breaks from performing. He made films during this period. He returned back to music scene after a hiatus of 25 years in 2006. Susmit Bose decided to be a singer at the age of 14, almost at the same time when India lost its first Prime Minister. He discovered Bob Dylan and began working on his skills on the guitar. He started composing music bits too.

 

To became “a socio-political singer-songwriter" he quit his studies in 1971. He was just 21 then. He borrowed a friend’s acoustic guitar to start off his professional career as a musician. He began playing small gigs, and was once spotted by an executive of HMV, which gave him to release the first album, Winter Baby in 1973. Train to Calcutta, Man of Conscience, Song of Dharma - the story of Mahabharata, Song of the Eternal Universe, Essentially Susmit Bose etc are some of his released albums.
