Sudhir Moghe Biography

Sudhir Moghe was a poet and lyricist associated with Marathi literature and cinema. He is a painter too. He penned some of the most memorable lyrics for Marathi films, and some of his popular songs are 'Ratris khel chale', 'Phite andharache jaale' and 'Sanj ye Gokuli'. Shrikant Moghe, noted Marathi actor associated with movies and theatre is his elder brother. His nephew (Shrikanth’s son) Shantanu Moghe is a Marathi actor, and Shantanu’s wife Priya Marathe works in Marathi television industry. His brother is a recipient of Natavarya Prabhakar Panashikar Rangabhoomi Puraskar, given by cultural wing of Maharashtra. Sudhir is a recipient of best lyricist award of the state government, GaDiMa Chaitraban and Keshavsut awards.

 

Sudhir Moghe hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He belonged to a family of artists and literals. His elder brother Shrikant Moghe closely worked with art and cinema, as an actor. Sudhir Moghe was a poet, who later joined entertainment stream like his brother. He penned some of evergreen songs of Marathi cinema. He also had a flair for art and exhibited his paintings often. In 2012, he held an exhibition titled Rangdhun in Pune. A man of multi talents, he effortlessly moved from poetry to music direction, dialogue writing, play direction and theatre presentations.

 

He was born in Kirloskarwadi on February 8, 1939. He got attracted to theatre because of the conducive atmosphere in his native town, and his elder brother too was associated with theatre since young. He moved to Pune in the 1970s, and earned recognition as a poet only after that. He presented various programmes such as 'Mantarlelya Chaitrabanat' and 'Nakshtranche Dene' through the platform of Swaranand Pratishthan. He passed away in 2014 aged 75, after prolonged illness.
