Sreekandan Nair Biography

Sreekandan Nair is a star anchor associated with Malayalam television network. He is one of the senior and successful anchors in the history of Malayalam television. He is associated with Doordarshan since 1980s. He was a lecturer by profession before he joined media industry. He later became one of the successful anchors of Malayalam television and also co-ordinated and produce several award functions and stage shows for leading television channels. He was associated with Asianet, and played a significant role in its merging with Star Plus. Since 2010, he is associated with Manorama Group.

Sreekandan Nair was born in Kollam district of Kerala as the son of N. Raman Pillai & Janaki Amma in 1959. He completed his MA & M Phil studies from University of Kerala, and started his career as a lecturer at the famous Kerala Varma College, Thrissur. He attended the audition for the show for Doordarshan - Oru Nimisham, and got selected as its anchor. This humorous show played a significant role in the professional career of Sreekandan and there was no turning back after that. He went on to anchor and produce several shows for Doordarshan. Later he worked with many leading Malayalam channels like Asianet and Mazhavil Manorama.

From 1995 onwards, he directed all the stage shows of Asianet including Asianet Film Awards. He has also directed many successful live shows like Asianet Television Awards, Finals of Idea Star Singer, Munch Star Singer etc. He played a key role in the merging of Asianet with Star Plus. Asianet was once running in 15 Cr losses and later it reached to a position of 300 Cr Revenue. In 2010 he joined Manorama Group as their Consultant. The group launched Mazhavil Manorama the following year. He is quite familiar to Malayali audience for hosting many chat shows.

He has also scripted many shows, and also feature films. He served as one of the Juries in the famous International Emmy Awards. He also published a few books. He has spent almost three decades in TV media, and has won State award thrice.
