Sonia (actress) Biography

Sonia is a south Indian film actress who started her acting career as a child artist in the early 1980’s. She received a National award for best child artist in the year 1984 for India’s first 3D film, My Dear Kuttichathan released in Malayalam. This movie dubbed to Hindi as Chota Chetan too was a big hit at box office and the movie was later released two times in digital versions, with some added scenes. She also received Kerala State Film Award for Best Female Child Artist for the movie, Nombarathi Poovu released in 1987. She is married to Tamil actor Bose Venkat since 2003. ThenmavinKombath is her most noted Malayalam movie, in which she appeared in the supporting role of a tribal woman. At present she is active in supporting roles on big screen as well as television serials.

She was born on 4 June 1977 and debut Malayalam screen with name, Baby Sonia. She acted for the first time at the age of 3 for the Malayalam movie - Ival Oru Naadodi. Then she continued as a child artist and My Dear Kuttichathan was her first big break which won her National award for best child artist. Her character name was Lakshmi in this movie. The first 3D film of India, My dear kuttichathan is still children’s favourite and was a huge success at box office. In 1987 she won the first state award for child artist role. She also appeared in Manu Uncle as a child artist. With early 1990’s, she started to accept adult roles and in most movies, she appeared in supporting roles. Thenmavin Kombath was one of the big breaks of her acting career. ‘Kallipoonkuyile’ song of the movie was pictured on her.

She has also appeared in supporting roles in movies like Sainyam, Venkalam, Guru, Mattupettimachan, Ghazal, Addeham Enna Iddeham, Midhya and many more. Her recent appearances include Kattuchempakam, Mullassery Madhavan Kutty Nemom P. O, Puthumukhangal, Alexander the great and Houseful. She has also appeared in a few Tamil movies like Parthiban Kanavu.
