Sithara Krishnakumar Biography

Sithara Krishnakumar is the latest singing sensation of Malayalam cinema. Enundodee song of Celluloid (2013) helped her to win the recently announced Kerala state awards in Best Female playback category. Though she has become a part of Malayalam film industry in 2007, this single award winning song made her a popular singer. The movie contained only two songs and both were composed using instruments of early 1900’s in that style and both the songs gave a new warm nostalgic feeling to its listeners. Celluloid along with its songs – Kaatte kaatte and Enundodee remain at top position till now. Apart from Malayalam, Sithara Krishnakumar has done playback singing in all the rest south Indian languages. She has won Kalathilakam title in Calicut University Arts Festival for two consecutive years(2005 and 2006).

 

She was born on 1 July 1986 in Kozhikode to Dr. K.M Krishnakumar and Saly Krishnakumar. She started learning music at the age of 4. She attended St.Pauls High School, NNM Higher secondary School and Calicut University Campus School. She did her graduation in English Literature from Farook College, Feroke. She took MA English Literature from Calicut University, Kerala. She is married to cardiologist, Dr. M. Sajish. Now she is doing Master of Arts in Hindustani Music and Rabindra Sangeet from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She has gained a good reputation as a devoted Ghazal singer also.

 

Sri Ramanattukara Sathish and Pala CK Ramachandran trained her Carnatic music while she received extensive education in Hindustani Classical music from Ustad Fiyaz Khan and Sri Vijayasenan. She had formal training in classical dance from Kalamandalam Vinodini. She won several musical talent shows like Asianet Saptha Swarangal (2004), Kairali TV Gandharva Sangeetham (Seniors) and Jeevan TV Voice 2004. Sithara started off her playback singing career in the year 2007 with the song Pammi Pammi in Vinayan's Athishayan.

 

Her popular Malayalam tracks include - Enundodee of Celluloid, Hath Le Le of Mayamohini, Kannaaram Pothi Pothi of Elsamma Enna Aankutty, Ponmaane of Yakshiyum Njanum, Pakalin Pavanil of Traffic, O Ponthoovalaayi  of Ee adutha kaalathu, Panchara Chiri Kondu and Kunjade Kurumbanaade of Marykkundoru Kunjaadu and Rab rab of Mallusingh.
