Shabir Biography

Shabir Tabare Alam, better known as Shabir is a singer, song writer and music composer from Singapore of Indian origin. His father's origin is Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu while his mother is a Malay/Tamil speaking lady. Shabir is a recipient of Singapore Youth Award, the highest national honour given to young achievers by the Singapore government. He was the first artist of Indian descent to win the award when it was given. He is the winner of the inaugural singing competition Vasantham Star 2005, and many more awards and honours. As a music artist, he predominantly works in Tamil language.

 

Shabir is born in Singapore to Indian father and Malay mother. He started writing songs at a very young age and composed his first song at the age of just 12. A self-taught keyboardist, he later took formal lessons in Hindustani music from Sri Veereshwar Madhri and also learnt guitar from Steeve Vatz. He completed his graduation in music production and composition from Singapore, where he was born and brought up.

 

As of now, Shabir has released three Tamil music albums - 'Alaipayuthey', 'TraffiQ' and 'Swasam-Scents of Prose' in Singapore and received an overwhelming response for his songs. He owns a huge fan following crowd in Singapore now. Shabir also works in Indian Tamil movies as a lyricist and playback singer. Shabir sang two songs for Vathikutchi produced by A.R Murugadoss, and also worked for Tamil film projects, Pranam Kosam, Arima Nambi and Telugu movie - Babu Bangaram as a singer.

 

He composed music for 2017 Tamil film, Sangu Chakkaram, and now a series of Tamil movies are in pipeline. Sagaa, Neeya and Dhillukku Dhuddu 2 are his upcoming flicks where Shabir carries the role of a music composer in Tamil cinema. He is a recipient of numerous awards including Vasantham Star 2005, Singapore Youth Award 2017, Edison Awards 2013 Best International Singer, Kannadasan Award 2012 by Association of Singapore Tamil Writers, Pradhana Vizha 2012 Most Popular Song and many more.
