Sardool Sikander Biography

Sardool Sikander, often referred to as "The King of Bhangra" is a Punjabi folk singer from Punjab. "Roadways Di Laari" of 1980’s was his debut album. He is also a Punjabi film actor who often appears in movies as a musician/singer. Till now 27 albums have been released. His works also include over 50 derivative albums. He is married to Punjabi singer and actress – Amar Noorie. His folk songs are classical music based and he belongs to the Patiala Gharana of music.

 

Sardool Sikander was born in a music family of Punjab in Fatehgarh as the son of a singer belonging to Patiala Gharana. His father is Sagar Mastana. He inherited music from his father and grandfather. He started formal training in music at a younger age from renowned musicians. He learnt from Charajit Ahuja of Patiala Gharana. His folk songs were aired for the first time from Jalandhar radio station in the year 1982. His Songs were telecast on Doordarshan Jalandhar one year later. As a singer, he had to struggle a lot to gain popularity and success. With the release of his debut L.P. Record of ROADWAYS DI LAARI (1987), Sikander shot to fame and there was no turning back after. He experimented with different singing voices for his debut album.

 

He released 27 albums till now which includes both folk songs as well as devotional and he is a successful singer indeed. Husna De Malikon and Nakhra Janab Da are his most popular albums. He has also acted in 19 films and rendered his voice as a playback singer over 60 films. He is a live performer also who conducts programs worldwide.  Moons In The Sky (2014) is his latest released album.
