Sankha Chatterjee Biography 
Sankha Chatterjee is a renowned and veteran tabla artist and musician. He learnt this musical instrument from legends like Ustad Maseet Khan, Ustad Karamatulla Khan and Ustad Allarakha Khan in Guru-Shishya Parampara tradition. He has performed both as a soloist and to play with most reputed musicians in major music conferences all over India. Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan, Ustad Vilayat khan, Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Ameer Khan, Ustad Nissar Hussain, Ustad Mohamed Hussain Sarang, Imrat Khan, Nikhil Banerjee, Pandit V. G. Jog, Sunanda Patnaik, Laxmi Shankar, Manik Verma, Parveen Sultana etc are among the renowned artists with whom Chatterjee has delivered musical performances.
Pandit Sankha Chatterjee was born into a family which follows musical tradition. His father Dr. Jogendra Nath Chatterjee, a medical practitioner was a vocalist who gave initial musical lessons to Sankha. He was interested in the musical instruments such as Tabla and Harmonium right from the childhood. When he was just three years old, he could easily imitate singing. He follows three different traditions of music in tabla, Farukabad, Delhi and Punjab, and is equally versed in all these. He is the first Indian musician to be invited by DAAD in the Berliner Kunstler program where he taught music.
He received a scholarship from Government of India in 1969. He later completed his graduation in music with first class honours and was awarded a gold medal. Since then he has been invited by many Indian artists to accompany them for musical concerts. He has delivered some memorable performances outside the country like Westminster Abbey, Royal Festival Hall (London), Congress Hall (Berlin) and 2 hours Tabla-Solo during the inaugural function of a new studio of RIAS (radio station) Berlin in 1975.
