Sanjoy Chowdhury Biography

Sanjoy Chowdhury is a muisc composer and background scorer who works in Indian films. He is quite successful as a background scorer of Bollywood. He is best known as the son of legendary Indian music composer Salil Chowdhury. His mother Sabitha Chowdhury is a singer. His sister Antara Chowdhury is also a musician and singer and has composed many songs. The siblings have together worked in many projects as music composers, predominantly in Malayalam, following the footsteps of their father who has given some wonderful compositions like Chemmeen to this language. In fact, Sanjoy made his film debut through Malayalam movies, though he later moved to Bollywood.

 

The siblings made their music debut in the year 1998, composing the background score for the highly praised and National award winning Malayalam film - Ennu Swantham Janakikutty. The movie was scripted and directed by the legendary duo – Hariharan & M. T. Vasudevan Nair. His first offer to Bollywood was also given by a Malayali. The movie was Sarfarosh in 1999, which starred Aamir Khan in a new avatar. It was the debut movie of its director, John Matthew Matthan of Malayali Origin. He along with his sister composed songs for the Malayalam dance oriented film - Ingane Oru Nilapakshi the same year. This particular movie marked his debut as music director and the songs were noticed for its distinct style and rendering. Yet later he concentrated on his career as a background scorer.

 

Sarfarosh was his big break to Bollywood as a background scorer. Some of his noted works include - Jab We Met, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, A Wednesday, Khiladi 420, K Company, Hum Kaun Hai?, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Golmaal 3, Kya Love Story Hai, All the Best: Fun Begins, Milenge Milenge, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? etc. A Wednesday – is his outstanding work as a music director, for which he was nominated at Star Screen Awards for Best Music Director. As a background scorer, Baby, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Roy and Dolly Ki Doli are his recent works.
