Sabareesh Prabhaker Biography

Sabareesh Prabhaker is an Indian musician from Kerala best known as a violinist. He hails from the musical family of the Cherthala sisters, consisting of 6 siblings, and Sabareesh Prabhaker is the grandchild of Janaki. Sabareesh is currently one of the leading south Indian names in the field of fusion music, and he has strong base of classical music as well. He has collaborated with many artists of present times and delivered some albums as well as stage concerts. He has teamed up with the leading percussionists like Sivamani and Mattannoor Sankarankutty Marar, in the recent past.

 

Sabareesh Prabhaker was born on 5 August 1989 in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam district. Born in a musical family, he inherited music from old generations. He studied vocal music under Tomy Thomas and P. Subramaniam. He started training in violin at the age of 5 under T. M. Abdul Hazeez. He also completed BA in music (vocal) at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam and pursued MA in violin at RLV College of Music and Fine Arts. He was the university topper. In between he persuaded his engineering studies, but dropped it to pursue a career in music.

 

Since school days he actively participated in cultural events and competitions and won many prizes. He was a 3-time winner at Mahatma Gandhi University inter-university arts festival. He also won national level competition in inter-college festival. As a professional, he started off at the age of 12, and currently owns a band called Immortal Raaga, along with a group of friends. Most recently in 2016, he did a cover album, and it was recognized by BBC in the Radio, Play Category. An ardent fan of Rahman, he has done cover versions of many A. R. Rahman songs.
