Rituraj Mohanty Biography

Rituraj Mohanty is an Indian playback singer associated with Bollywood. His Sufiana renditions have earned Rituraj a huge fan following. He shot to fame after winning the singing competition-show India's Raw Star created by Gajendra Singh of Saibaba Telefilms. The show was aired on Star Plus in 2014. He beat Darshan Raval and Mohit Gaur in the finals of the show. He along with Darshan Raval sang a few songs for Himesh Reshammiya’s Tera Suroor. The composer is quite known for giving break to reality show best performers. Rituraj is quite known for his soulful and heartwarming Sufi performances.

 

Rituraj Mohanty was born at Belapada in Nimapada in Puri district of Odisha into a family with music background. His parents are Chakradhar Mohanty and Pravati Mohanty. His father is a tabla artist and a small time singer, who inspired Rituraj a lot since his younger days. Sumanta Mohanty - a reputed music director in Oriya classical music industry is his cousin. Quite attracted to music, Rituraj trained in Hindustani classical music at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar for three years. However following an accident he was in coma for a short period. He left his music studies and moved to Mumbai later.

 

Since early 2011 he kept trying for a break in playback singing. He contested in India's Raw Star aired on star Plus. His renditions of Sufi numbers gathered him a big fan following crowd and he was eventually declared as the winner. Himesh Reshammiya has been such a great mentor and a huge support for this budding star. "Sahib" for Bhoothnath Returns (2014) composed and co-sung by Ram Sampath was his first break to playback singing. Aam Ke Aam Honge on Satyamev Jayate show on Star Plus was one of his early songs. He sang the songs "Adhuri Zindagi Hai" for Himesh Reshammiya’s Tera Suroor and "Ishwar Maula" for Ram Sampath’s Bangistan.
