Renu Soundar Biography

Renu Soundar is a popular television actress, who shot to fame playing the lead role of Karthika in the most popular television series in the recent times, Karutha Muthu. She also played lead role in Vini Vincent’s award winning Malayalam film, Manhole. Renu dreamt to become a painter, but destiny brought her to spotlight through cinema and television.

Renu hails from Vizhavoor of Thiruvananthapuram district. She is a single child to her parents, Saundar Raj and Ramani Bhai. She is a second year MFA student at Kaladi Sree Shankaracharya Sanskrit University. She also completed BFA from the same college. She is interested in painting and also did a one-year animation course at Tunes Animation Academy after Plus-2. Once her friend sent her photo to Malayala Manorama’s Metro Queen Contest, and her photo got published. It paved her way to acting field.

She received her first break for the art film, Kazhinjakaalam, where she shared screen space with National award winning actor, Charuhasan. Later she appeared in a few short films like Isabella, Kerchief, U-turn etc. Actress Surabhi studies in her college, who informed her about the audition of lead role for Karuthamuthu. She recommended Renu’s name to Kishore Satya and that’s how she bagged the popular role. She also did make-down to get darker skin tone for the role, as the serial title suggests.

Though she has received several serial roles, Karuthamuthu is her first work. She liked the series as it discusses about human skin colour. Renu has participated in several painting competitions since school days. But acting was something new to her, till she appeared in stage plays during cultural events at college. She replaced Premi Viswanath’s character for the show, Karutha Muthu. Manhole gave her first break to big screen. She played the lead role of Shalini, an advocate who stands for the people who works in streets to clean manholes, risking their lives.
