Rani Varma Biography

Rani Varma is a singer and recordist from Maharashtra. She is the daughter of legendary artist and singer Manik Varma, who performs in the Kirana and Agra gharanas of Hindustani music. Many of her siblings and family members are well–established names in the field of art. Her sisters - Bharati Achrekar is an actor, and Vandana Gupte, a Marathi stage, film and television actor. Rani Varma is also a playback singer of Marathi cinema. She has recorded many songs for children of which “Adam Tadam Tad Tad Baja” is the most popular album.

 

Rani was born to a family of musicians in Maharashtra. Born as the youngest daughter of legendary artist and singer Padma Shri Manik Varma, she chose music as her career. Ga Geet Tu Satari, in Marathi marked her playback singing debut. Since then she has sung many memorable film songs and a few album songs for children. She has given many hits as a playback singer. She was married to a Professional Engineer and hospitality investor Ashok Patel. After marriage they lived in New Orleans, USA for many years. Later they divorced in 2005 and Rani moved back to India where she continues with her musical journey.

 

Some of her popular songs are Pappa Sanga Kunache, He Rashtra Devatanche, Sampale Swapna Te, Ga Geet Tu Satari, Mi Mottha Honar Kinai, Jagane Amuche Naka Vicharu, Tu Sukhakarta Tu, Tula Aalavita Jeevan Sarave etc. “Adam Tadam Tad Tad Baja” is her independent album released in Marathi language. She has collaborated with her sisters for the documentary project, "Manik Moti" done by Ashok Hande as a tribute to her mother, after her death.
