Ram Sampath Biography

Ram Sampath is a music director of present Bollywood most popular for compositions of Khakee, Family, Peepli Live, Talaash (2012), Love ka the end, Fukrey and Delhi Belly. He has also composed music for ad jingles of brands like Airtel, Docomo, Thums Up, Pepsi and the Times of India.

 

Born to South Indain parents, Sampath was born and brought up in Delhi. Both his parents were interested in music. His grandfather TV Ramanujam was one among the founders of Shanmukhananda Hall, a cultural centre in Mumbai. He did his schooling from OLPS High School, Chembur. Inspired from his ancestors and family, he too learnt Carnatic music for eight years. He studied commerce at Podar College, Mumbai. He was a keyboard artist in his band during college days.

 

Sampat got his first break in 2003 as a film score composer with the movie - Let's Talk. But his compositions were noted with next year hit movie – Khakee. Songs like Wada raha, Dil dooba and Aisa jaadu daala re were huge hits during 2004. Then he did a few movies like Family, Jumbo and Aage se right till he got a big project of Aamir Khan in the year 2011. All songs became smash hit and he got positive responses from critics for the first time. Switty Tera Pyaar Chaida, Nakkaddwaley Disco, Udhaarwaley Khisko, Ja Chudail, Tere siva, Bedardi raja and I Hate You were the hit songs of this movie.

 

Seeing the success music score of Delhi Belly, Aamir Khan offered him his next venture too. Talaash released in the year 2012 was well noticed for its fine tunes. Songs like Jeele zara and Jiya laage na were roaring success and the movie Talaash placed him as a successful music director of Bollywood. Along with Javed Akhtar’s lyrics, Sampat created his masterpiece song, Jiya laage na. This song is popularly known for its instruments used and its good sound mixing.

 

Fukrey was the first hit movie of Sampat in 2013. Ram Sampat was one among those playback singers who sung its title track - Fuk Fuk Fukrey. He also sang Lag Gayi Lottery and Rabba for the movie.
