Rakesh Pandit Biography

Rakesh Pandit is an Indian singer associated with playback singing as well as independent music. He has rendered his voice for more than 100 Bollywood songs, apart from releasing devotional and pop songs. He is also associated with ghazals and sufi songs. Guzaarish, Omkara, Maqbool, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Pyaar Ke Side Effects are some of well-known Hindi films for which Rakesh rendered his voice. He sings in varied genres including Classical, Folk, Bhajan, Ghazal, Qawwali and Sufiana.

 

Rakesh Pandit was born on 8 September 1967 in Mumbai. He hails from Borivali of Mumbai city. His father Shambhu Pandit was a singer and one among the renowned Qawwali Duo in Music Industry known as "Shanker Shambhu". Rakesh Pandit had an early career beginning at the age of three, singing with his father for stage performances. He also learnt music from his father and uncle, and regularly accompanied them for their musical shows. By the age of 12 he started giving solo performances on stage, earning fame and popularity at a young age. He got his first break to Bollywood singing at the age of only 22, and after that rendered his voice over 100 film songs.

 

Rakesh is quite popular with devotional songs, and remained less successful with film songs. "Dil Tod Ke Na Ja" of Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Tum Jo Aaye Zindagi Mein & Pee loon in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, "Ru-Ba-Ru" of Maqbool, "Namak" of Omkara, "Tera Zikr" of Guzarish etc are some of the film songs in which his voice was used, mostly as a Sufi or devotional voice and sometimes as back vocals.  He provided the backvocals for "Pee Loon" of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which was one of the top chartbuster songs of 2010.
