Purbayan Chatterjee Biography 
Purbayan Chatterjee is a musician, sitar player and music composer from Kolkata. Known for his fusion music, he incorporates contemporary world music genres into Indian classical music to create new compositions. He has performed in duet with Shankar Mahadevan for the composition Dwo from the album Stringstruck. He was a recipient of the President of India Award as an Instrumentalist at the age of 15, and has been honoured with Aditya Vikram Birla Award too. He has released numerous bestselling albums and has also performed in the music festivals across the globe. He is married to famous Malayalam playback singer Gayatri Asokan since 2016.
Chatterjee was born in Kolkata on 12 September 1976 into a family with musical background. He learned Sitar from his father Parthapratim Chatterjee. He was recognized as the ‘Best instrumentalist’ nationwide at the age of 15. After that he has performed as a solo artist as well as an accompany for many performances across the globe. He is also a vocalist, and known as a performer too. He married Malayalam playback singer Gayatri Asokan as per Kerala Hindu traditions in Paramekkavu temple, Thrissur in 2016.
Purbayan’s trademark is the marriage of several musical traditions, and is best known for his fusion performances. He also performs semi-classical art. He composed music for different language films including Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali. He is also known for his collaboration with well-known composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan. He has performed live at international concerts like Royal Festival Hall, London, Sydney Opera House, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London etc and Indian musical festivals like Pt Bhimsen Joshi National Festival of Music and Dance, Hyderabad.
