Pratima Bandopadhyay Biography 
Pratima Bandopadhyay, also known as Pratima Banerjee was a playback singer of Bengali cinema, who was fully active in the golden era of 1950s-1970s. She was also associated with independent music, and has recorded many music records since 1945. Her first song was recorded by Senola Records the same year. She made her debut in playback singing in Bengali films in 1951. "Totini ami, Tumi sudurer chand" for the movie, "Sunandar Biye" (1951) composed by Sudhirlal Chakraborty was her first song. Since then she sang for three decades in Bengali cinema, apart from Bengal modern songs.
Pratima Bandopadhyay was born in Kolkata, West Bengal on 21 December 1934. Her ancestors were from Dhaka, present-day Bangladesh. She lost her father at the age of 1, and was raised by her mother at her maternal home. She started music lessons at a young age from Prakash Kali Ghoshal, and recorded her first song in 1945 at the age of just 11. She joined film industry as a playback singer 6 years later at the age of 17. She owns many golden hits of Bengali cinema to her credit, in a career spanning to three decades. After her husband’s death in 1986, she turned less active in her singing profession and her health deteriorated also.
Some of her memorable songs are Abire Rangalo Ke Amay from Mukhujjye Paribar, Aamar Prabhat Madhur Holo from Mayar Sansar, Bhuli Kamone Ajo Je Mone from Asamay, Chholke Pare Kolke Phule from Ek Gochha Rajanigandha, Ei Lobhinu Sanga Tabo from Chuti, Aami Kuheli Naa Swapna from Harano Sur, Aankhi Bale Chalo from Sabarmati and many more. She has recorded many Bengali film songs with Hemant Kumar. She passed away in 2004.
