Pooja Vaidyanath Biography

Pooja Vaidyanath is an Indian playback singer who predominantly works in south Indian movies. Apart from singing for Tamil and Telugu films, she has also rendered her voice for a few Bollywood films. She has appeared in several singing reality shows on Tamil andTelugu television, before she turned a full-fledged singer. Pooja worked with A. R. Rahman in his Hindi film Raanjhanaa and recorded for the song "Tum Tak."

 

Some of her popular songs in Tamil films include "Parkadhey" from Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013), "Yeppo Maama Treatu" from Jilla (2014) and "Aalaporan Tamizhan" from “Mersal” (2017). She regularly worked with ace music composers of the industry like A. R. Rahman, D. Imman and S. Thaman. 2013 song "Parkathey Parkathey" from the movie, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam composed by D. Imman earned her Vijay Television Awards for Favourite Singer Female. She mostly records her songs for Tamil, and a few for Telugu and Bollywood.

 

She hails from Andhra Pradesh, born in the year 1988. Her father is a doctor and mother, a bank employee. She got drawn to Carnatic and Hindustani music sing young and started appearing in singing talent hunt shows at a younger age. Telugu show Padalani Undi hosted by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam on Maa TV in 2006 was the first show which she won. In 2008 she became the runner-up of Zee Telegu Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Voice of Youth, and since then started gaining popularity. In 2010 she won Vaanampadi competition for a Tamil Channel.

 

She marked her singing debut in 2013. She sang the title track of Tamil film Thalaivaa composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar and also marked her Bollywood debut with Rahman’s hit track, "Tum Tak" from the movie, Raanjhanaa. Since then she is regular in Tamil films.
