Paul Sabu Biography

Paul Sabu is an American singer, songwriter, producer, musician and guitarist of Indian origin. His father Sabu Dastagir, who hailed from Mysore, Karnataka was one of the earliest Indians to establish a career in Hollywood and British cinema. His sister Jasmine Sabu was an animal trainer on various films and screenwriter, while his mother Marilyn Cooper is a little-known actress. This musician has been credited with production and mixing on 14 Platinum and 11 Gold Records. His active career began in the early 1980s.


Paul Sabu was born in US on January 2, 1960 as the son of iconic child artist Sabu Dastagir (known for British and American wildlife and adventurous films of late 1930s and 1940s) and little time actress Marilyn Cooper. He has one sister. He lost his father at the age of three. Sabu died of heart attack in his late 30s, and Paul and his sister were brought up by their mother. Though both his parents pursued acting, Paul pursued music and also formed a musical band - Only Child followed by ‘Sabu’ which established his career. His career was at its peak during 1980s and 1990s, and he has collaborated with some of the best artists of this period.


He has successfully collaborated with artists like Robbie Neville, Prince, Daniela Romo, David Bowie, Lee Aaron, Elvira, Fatal Smile, Madonna, Motels, Little Caesar, Alice Cooper, Malice, Silent Rage, Shania Twain, John Waite etc for live performances as well as musical recordings. As a musician he has been associated with several movies and TV series. Sabu, Strange Messiah, Call of the Wild, Kidd Glove, Only Child, Heartbreak etc are some of his official releases.
