Parvati Khan Biography

Parvati Khan is a well-established pop singer and model of Hindi entertainment industry who is active in the field since 1980s. She has also sung a few peppy numbers for Bollywood in the 1980s. The most notable song is the maiden work for Bollywood - "Jimmy Jimmy Aaja" in the 1982 super hit film of Mithun Chakraborty – Disco dancer, one of the earliest Indian films for fast tracks. The chartbuster songs earned her Gold Disc award. She regularly performs in Doordarshan musical shows since then, and has also anchored a few shows. "Khula Tala Chod Aayi" is another popular track of this singer. She has been associated with composer Bappi Lahiri for her most memorable tracks including - "Jimmy Jimmy Aaja".


Her maiden name is Parvati Maharaj and she is a native of Trinidad. Attracted to music at a very young age, she won TV Talent Contest in Trinidad at the age of 12. She gained popularity and fame through this show at a very young age in the 1980s. She made her mark as a model and pop singer in the 1980s and also rendered her voice for a few peppy numbers for Bollywood. She got married to ace cinematographer Nadeem Khan and has one son Jatin. Dr Rahi Masoom Raza is her father-in-law.


As a talented pop singer of 1980s, she played a crucial role in bridging Indian popular music with her unique brand of fusion music and popularized in India as well as abroad, a time when fast tracks and disco numbers had just started dominating Indian music, particularly film music. Apart from Disco dancer, she has sung for Bollywood movies – Love Love Love starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla and Maa Kasam. Though she achieved fame and success as a pop singer and performer for two decades since 1980s, she got associated with devotional songs, apart from social and philanthropic activities after 2002.
