Paloma Rao Biography

Paloma Rao is an Indian actress, Video Jockey (VJ) and Radio Jockey (RJ) based in Chennai. She has appeared in two Indian films in a supporting role - That Four-Letter Word in English and Unnale Unnale in Tamil, both released in 2007. She has hosted and anchored many Tamil shows on television and best known for her association with Star Sports, where she anchored the Tamil Nadu Premier League in 2016 and ICC Champions Trophy, the following year. First Frame, Autograph and Just Connect are some of the shows she anchored for SS Music, which earned her initial recognition.

 

Paloma Rao hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She holds a Bachelor of degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai. She joined the band of video jockeys of Southern Spice Music channel at the end of the six-month long VJ Factor hunt in 2004. The talent hunt attracted over 15,000 aspirants, including more than 5000 participants from Chennai itself. Kochi-based Vijay Abraham and yet another Chennaiite Shyam also got selected along with Paloma. It was the first talent hunt for VJs after three years the channel was started. Paloma was doing her visual communication studies at Chennai when she got selected.

 

She had trained in ballet for six years and dabbled with theatre and dance, before she started her career as VJ. She aspired to have a full-fledged career in television or media once she completes her Master’s degree. She anchored some of the popular music shows for SS Music which helped her to gain foot in the industry. In 2007, she played a cameo role for the hit Tamil film, Unnale Unnale, followed by one Indian English movie, That Four-Letter Word directed by Chennai-based film critic and journalist, Sudhish Kamath.
