Padmavathy Ananthagopalan Biography 
Padmavathy Ananthagopalan is an Indian musician and exponent of musical instrument, Veena. Born in 1934, she is one of the foremost artists of this musical instrument right now. Noted veena artist of present day, Jayanthi Kumaresh is her niece, who took musical lessons from her. She also plays south Indian musical instruments like mridangam and nagaswaram. She is also the founder of the Sri Satguru Sangita music school, which is 25 years old now. She teaches numerous students through her music school. Lalgudi Jayaraman belongs to her family, and is her elder brother. She authored and published two books - Shadjam and Rishabam.
Padmavathy Ananthagopalan was born in Chennai on 12 July 1934. She was initiated into music when she was five by her father Lalgudi Gopala Iyer, who taught her Veena. She gave her first public performance at the age of 12. Her ancestors are direct disciples of Saint Thyagaraja, and her siblings too are musicians & violinists. Her elder brother is Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, a violinist. Padmavathy got married to Ananthagopalan, a veena and violin exponent, and a renowned guru of this field. Her elder brother is Lalgudi G. Jayaraman.
She has tuned Sanskrit works like Lalita Sahasranamam, Saundaryalahari, Mooka Panchasati etc, and has taught her disciples. She plays the veena in the "gayaki" style and is an expert known for her unique rendition. Though she observed different musicians, she later came up with her own unique style wherein every swara is given its due in a raga. She is a regular performer on AIR as well as Doordarshan, and an A-grade artist for AIR. She has delivered performances across India and since 1990s, in many foreign countries.
