Nishigandha Wad Biography

Dr. Nishigandha Wad is an Indian television actress who has formerly been a model. She is a highly acclaimed Marathi actress who works in both television serials and movies. This versatile actress started her career in the late 1980s and has been featured in many TV ads, of which Vicco’s ad of 1990s made her a familiar face among television viewers. Apart from Marathi cinema, she has also worked in a few Bollywood movies like Daadagiri, Deewangee, Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge and Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage. Some of her noted Marathi films include – Ashi hi Dyaneshwari, Bala Jo Jo Re, Pratikar, Eka Peksha Ek, Bandhan, Saasar Maaher, Saasar Maaher, Shejari Shejari and Ashi hi Dyaneshwari. Kulvadhu is her most popular Marathi television work.

She is also a noted author who has published 5 books including 3 award winning ones. Wad is speaker in Educational Lecture film on Religious Harmony in Marathi and she also delivers speeches on women empowerment. She also holds a doctorate from the University of Mumbai for her work on ‘Changing Role of Women in Society — Reflections from Marathi & British Theatres’. She played female protagonist in Hindi Feature film ‘In The Name Of.. Tai’, directed by Ujjwal V. Thengdi. The movie was inspired from the real life story of slain activist lawyer Navleen Kumar. Khushiyon Ki Gullakh Aashi, Sasural Simar Ka, Maati Ki Banno and Sajda Tere Pyaar Mein are her noted Hindi television roles.

 

She was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 11 October 1969. Her acting talents were identified at the age of 7 when she won the best actress prize during an inter-school drama competition. She won the national talent scholarship for dramatics at the age of 12. Equally brilliant in studies, she completed a doctorate from University of Mumbai. Her professional career as a theatre artist began when she was studying in school. Her first television serial in Marathi was ‘Avhaan’ which earned her many awards for popular actress in 1989, making her big entry to television world.
